I feel this image is successful because the formal elements of line and shape are present in the image. The use of shallow depth of feels brings a shadowing dark effect it the image and i used the rule of thirds to enhance the overall composition effect. towards the left-hand side of the image three leaves can be seen becoming more in focus as nearer to the cameras it gets, this brings
Using Pixlr i post edited the image levels, curves. balance and tints. This added great complexity towards the images boldness and dark tones. The use of Apeture f/1.8 brings a clear focus to this abstract nature image. overall i am pleased with this photo. |
i feel this image is successful because the line tone and pattern of the plants are broadened in the photo. The use of shallow depth of field brings a focusing and brightening effect to the picture. there is alot of tone and texture caught in the plants making it interesting and pleasurable to look at.

“Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.” – Edward Weston
SubjectThis photograph by Edward Weston is called No.30 created and processed in 1930. The subject of this image is a green pepper being classed as one of his still life images. The light of the pepper contrasts the light and dark highlights and shadows of the peppers firm but smooth skin. Weston chose to highlight the peppers abstract form and depth by adding the focus of shadow
ElementsThis image shows all the elements and principles of photography. In this No.30 image created by Weston I can see the different tones and deformities of the peppers look. The highlights in white show the brightness and contrast of the outside of the peppers darkness and the lightness on the actual pepper. The blue symbolises the hidden line of symmetry and the red shows the natural highlights of the pepper.
MediaThis photo was taken close to the subject as well as getting the full pepper in the image. The lighting was placed more to the left of the central pepper causing it to have a highlighted affect. This image is probably taken in a studio due to the affective dark background of the image, the professional use of lighting and the all around look of the photo and knowledge of this image. IntentEdward Weston was well known for his unique style in natural forms. This image probably represents the natural look of a grown image by highlighting the deformities of the pepper and lighting of tone and shape, making it look better than what may be seen by just picking it up and throwing it away. |
I chose this image i like the look of the shape of the subject. the strengths of this image are, shadow effect, lighting and tone. the process used to edit this image was changing the saturation of the image, the vibrance at the top of the image and brightening the highlights. The use of artificial light gave the image a better and brighter lighting making the image look more in focus. The low key look of this image gave it a natural look emphesising natural lightg. |
I chose this image because I like the framing of the plant pot to the subject. the strengths of this image are, framing, the lighting of the image and shallow depth of field in the background. The use of artificial light gave the image a better and brighter lighting making the image look more in focus. The low key look of this image gave it a dramatic and natural look emphesising natural light. |
I chose this image because I like the angle and look of the subject. The strengths of this image are the contrast of the light and darkness, the angle of the subject and the tone of the image. The editing used here was changing the monochrome affect, using the rules of third grid and changing the darkness of the background so nothing can be seen behind the subject. The use of artificial light gave the photo a better and brighter lighting make the image look more in focus. The low key look of this image gave is a dramatic and dark effect emphesing the artificial lighting |
I chose this image because of the angle of the plant pot. The strengths of the image are the lighting, the shadows and tone of the photo. The editing used here is curves, change in monochrome effect and brightness making the image look natural and bright. The use of natural light made the image look more realistic than those done in artificial lighting. The low key look of this image gives it a sombre mood emphesising the natural light. |
Anna Atkins was a English botanis and photographer famously known for illustrating the first book with photographic images. The cyanotype is the slow-reacting economic printing formulation sensitive to ultra violet and dark blue spectrum. A disadvantage with cyanotypes is due to the sensitizor not often being well absorbed and can also cause tackiness impacting the negative. By using this technique

Man Ray was known best for his pioneering photography and was an American artist. Photograms are photographic images made by placing an object directly onto a light-sensitive material. photograms display tones in order opposite to the one seen in reality, but can be use mainly to create shadow affect. By using a photogram.

My chosen photographer is the German photographer Karl Blossfeld famous for his close up images of living things. This image is called the Saxifraga Wilkommiana. The genre of the image is based on still life focusing on an object in this case a plant that is not moving of placed when taking the photo. as the image remains stationary as the photograph is taken, like many of his works this image is also take as a portrait giving the object a more centeral look . Karl Blossfeldt clearly focused on high key photography due to there being little shadow shown and the colour palete is also neutral. This image has also been enlarged 10 times for an ensured outcome. The props i can see in this photo is the main subject of living objects in this case what is described as a Rosette of leaves. Additionally Karl uses a remote class this enables the flash to be timed exactly with the camera to decrease shade, fade the leaves to the background and make the background as light and neutral as possible. |
This Photographer uses the 7 visual elements in his work to create this photograph. In my opinion the strongest elements in the image are the tone, the form and the shape. The form of the plant is clearly highlighted in this image because each eight of the leaves similar and are created to look like another plant such as a dandelion. The shape of the images subject is also broad and fits the form of the plant. The majority of his work is neutral in its colour palette this really highlights the subject of his work in this case the rosette of leaves with contrasting shades and tones from dark to light, this helps him pull of the high key look he clearly goes for. |
The main focal point of this photograph is the plant as it is the focus of the image, this focal point highlights of the leaves are in a rosette and all points meet directly in the middle. I think he purposely placed his plant this way to draw attention to the subject matters of tone shape and patter as the leaves draw the attention closely to the eight lines of the leaves that all meet in the centre. This looks like it has been taken under a UV light with natural light through the windows due to the highlights and light being shown left of the plants frame. I can tell there is a hint of sunlight in this image because the the beige look shown on what would if without the sunlight would be plain white. For this to be captured would need light shining through the window or door so the light can be seen on the backdrop, the lighting from the UV light is clearly angle above to the left of the image as this is when more artificial light can be noticed.

I use a Canon EOS 90D camera with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM fixed lens. The only reason I even know about the technology is because my colleague told me that's what I needed and would be the biggest bang for the buck. The rest of it is all by feel. I have absolutely no photo training. For me that suffices because I'm not hung up on technical stuff. Just looking for ways to capture information for my paintings Click here to eWhy this artist?
